Today marks just over one month since I released my new album Every Other Flower and I have been truly humbled by the response to it since then. I can’t help but marvel at how the internet allows us to share music with others instantly around the globe. Receiving your orders and posting CDs off to you around the world has made me smile :)
It was even more beautiful to be able to walk onstage and share these songs and the stories behind them with you. Learning to connect with you as an audience and trying to create an atmosphere that none of us will forget has been an exciting challenge!
I think the thing that has touched me most however, is how people have shared with me what the songs mean to them and the effect the music has had upon them. The way little children have run up to me after concerts to say breathlessly ‘I liked your rap the most!!’ People I don’t know have blogged about my songs on the other side of the world. I have received emails (and orders, too!) of praise and encouragement from folk that stumbled across my music randomly online. A friend phoned the other day to say the album is the perfect length for her work commute, and listening to it helps her to be a kinder person to her colleagues when she gets there! Another friend told me the opening lyrics of one song remind her to strive to be a better person. An old classmate wrote to say how beautiful the lyrics were and how he just sat listening for hours and could he feature me in his blog?
My reason for sharing these things is not to ‘big up’ the music I write, but rather to try to convey how grateful I am, how encouraging it is to hear these thoughts and experiences and how you have all inspired me to continue this musical journey…because of you, I am so excited about continuing to write music and to share it with others!
Thank you! <3
